Homemade Flour Tortillas!!!

So I am giving in and sharing my Flour Tortilla Recipe!!! I never thought I would share this recipe... but I just had to.  My kids know I have made tortillas the second they walk in the door!!! I never have any left.... they are gone before I finish making the last one. This recipe is easy... you cannot substitute any ingredients... Follow exactly and you will have perfect tortillas every time. Mine are not perfect circles, but they taste darn good!!!

2 Cups All Purpose Flour
1 1/2 Teaspoon Salt
1 1/2 Teaspoon Baking Powder
5 Tablespoons Crisco Shortening
3/4 to 1 Cup HOT water

I use a Stand Mixer... and recommend you do the same... only because you need to use boiling water and it is way to hot for your hands.

I boil 1 cup of water in the microwave for about 2 minutes... You need super hot boiling water in order to get soft tortillas.

In the mixer add the shortening, salt and baking powder... slowly add the water until you get a nice, soft, pliable ball of dough.

Put the dough in a bowl and cover with plastic wrap.  You need to let the dough rest for at least 15 minutes. If you skip this step your tortillas will be hard and BLAH!!!

After you have rested the dough... roll into a log in order to divided in equal pieces.

Roll the dough into balls, cover and allow to rest for another 10 minutes.

On a generously floured surface roll out with a rolling pin.

Does not have to be perfect!!!

Throw onto a very hot griddle. I use an electric griddle and set at 400 degrees

When your tortilla bubbles... it is ready to flip

These are very easy to make and will go quick!!! I promise!
